Motcombe Gardens Bowls Club

Was formed in 1910 and is situated in the delightful Old Town area of Eastbourne in the lovely little park called Motcombe Gardens. We are affiliated to Bowls England and Sussex County Bowls. Two of our members have coaching qualifications and run coaching sessions throughout the season for new bowlers and for those members wishing to hone their skills.

The 2024 membership currently stands at 35 full members, and as we are a mixed club whenever possible our friendly matches against other clubs are played with mixed teams of ladies and gents.

We have a small but well equipped clubhouse which was completely rebuilt in 2000 with the aid of a lottery grant and much fundraising by members via bric-a-brac sales, boot fairs and club events. In 2013 we installed a watering system for the green and more recently we had a new equipment store and patio area built together with having the clubhouse kitchen extended to improve the facilities for the wonderful ladies who provide our refreshments throughout the year. In 2019 we replaced the wooden balustrade in front of the clubhouse with toughened-glass panels which in our view is a tremendous improvement. With the Clubhouse shut due to Covid-19 in 2020/21, we took the opportunity to spruce it up with a coat of paint, new radiators, replacement sanitary ware in the toilets and installed a handrail for additional safety in front of the raised section of seating at the far end of the green. We have WiFi installed together with remote access to our CCTV, Sprinkers and heating systems.

We are always delighted to welcome new members and offer a full calendar of friendly matches against other local clubs and touring sides, together with an assortment of internal competitions. In addition, members compete in the local open competitions in Eastbourne and surrounding towns, in county competitions and in the Eastbourne Men's League.

We offer a warm welcome to touring teams and our Match Secretary will be pleased to organise a match against us during your stay in the delightful town of Eastbourne.
